4 Solutions to Conquer SAD for WFH Entrepreneurs

November 12, 2021      Sheila Anderson Mochrie      Leave a Comment

SAD Affect Many People Every Year

S.A.D. – It’s ironic that the Acronym for Seasonal Affective Disorder turns out to be exactly what you don’t want to be!

No, you can’t just snap out of it like people may tell you to. No, it isn’t just all in your mind as others may say. And, no, you will not get over it in a few days – as if it were a virus you had caught.

If you are an online entrepreneur working from home who experiences symptoms of S.A.D., this article is for you. Keep reading to learn the major causes of Seasonal Affective Disorder and 4 simple solutions to combat the symptoms.

4 Solutions to Conquer SAD for WFH Entrepreneurs

What are the Symptoms of S.A.D.?

S.A.D. is one of those weird physiological things that happen, and you may not even realize you have it. Clinical neuropsychologist Emily Kurlansik, PsyD, defines SAD as a type of depression in which:

… people experience feelings of sadness and low energy, especially around the winter months when the days are the shortest.“

Seasonal Affective Disorder creeps up on you as the seasons begin to change from bright, light, and warm to grey skies and colder weather. Those who have it can begin to dread winter, in particular, as they know that they will see an onset of their symptoms.

It even takes a turn for the worse as the hour taken away at Daylight Savings time, makes their sadness, depression, or gloominess worse.

Looking for a way to improve Seasonal Affective Disorder symptoms?

Then I have the perfect printable guide, journal, and planner for you!

Get the SAD Feeling Blue Commercial PLR Template and help so many people learn how to conquer their SAD symptoms today!

Some of the most common symptoms of S.A.D. include:

  • Hopelessness
  • Irritability
  • Low energy
  • Loss of interest or pleasure
  • Appetite changes
  • Sleep disturbances

If you are an entrepreneur – such as a mom who works at home blogging, a father working from home in the marketing industry, a grandma selling online or a retiree making a side income selling Printables and digital products on Etsy – it is important that you are aware of the side effects of this condition and also how you can alleviate some of these symptoms to keep your life and business on track.

What Causes Seasonal Affective Disorder Symptoms

Disrupted sleep due to seasonal changes is one cause that can bring on SAD symptoms.

Working from home it can be tempting to turn over and lie in for a few extra hours or to lounge around on the sofa all day, but that is not going to do your business any good.

Tip: Stick to the schedule you make for yourself and keep the sleep problems to a minimum.

Another cause is lack of sunlight. During this season, the grey skies of winter produce less hours of light. This decrease in UV ray absorption affects the amount of serotonin and melatonin your brain produces.

These hormones are the neurotransmitters that help keep you balanced and happy. So, when your brain is producing a smaller amount of these hormones, your mood is in turn affected.

This affect comes in the form of symptoms like depression and anxiety, amongst others.

4 Solutions to Relieve Stress and Anxiety Caused by S.A.D.

SAD Solution #1 = Improving Sleep:

Get More Sleep to Improve S.A.D. Symptoms

To improve sleeping patterns that are disrupted during this time of year, try sticking to the best sleep pattern for your circadian rhythm.

For example, going to bed at a regular time before 10 pm and rising with the light between 6am and 7 am. This has proven to improve sleep loss and symptoms of SAD.

SAD Solution #2 = Increasing Exposure to Sunlight:

To counteract the lack of sunlight, a sufferer can make sure that they spend time outside.

Performing activities like walking, gardening, cycling, or exercising outdoors can help increase exposure to sunlight. Access to sunlight can also be achieved indoors by spending more time near a window or a skylight.

Another ingenious way to increase absorption of light is by using specialty lamps that create artificial light that simulates sunlight.

Experts refer to this as light therapy for seasonal affective disorder, or phototherapy. They believe it can alter the brain chemicals associated with mood and sleep.

S.A.D. Light Therapy for WFH Entrepreneurs

A homepreneur -someone who works from home – who suffers from SAD symptoms, should make sure they have enough light and sleep to keep their mood in check and the sluggishness at bay.

SAD Solution #3 = Limit disruptive Substance Intake:

And of course – we all know how caffeine and alcohol can disrupt sleep patterns – so no drinking coffee all day and drinks before bed.

Try to limit both liquids and eat a healthy diet including fruits and vegetables.

SAD Solution #4 = Take time to Socialize:

Improve S.A.D. by Socializing with Friends and Family

One important thing that you can do as an entrepreneur who works from home is to try to add more socialization into your day. Have phone calls with friends and family, arrange a coffee date once a week, have lunch with friends, have facetime with friends and loved ones who live far away.

Spending too much time alone when feeling down is not good for your mental state of mind.

Here Is a Quick SAD Solutions Summary That Shows You How to Help Seasonal Affective Disorder:

  1. Ensure you have a regular sleeping pattern. Begin your day as the sun rises and end your day when the sun is down to improve symptoms like moodiness and lack of energy.
  2. Moving a desk in front of a window or adding a specialty light box to the desktop and use it regularly to increase your exposure to light.
  3. Limit substances like caffeine and alcohol and incorporate a healthy diet into your daily routine.
  4. Take the time to socialize with friend and family to import your mood and wellbeing.

As your own boss you must be proactive about ensuring you are not ignoring symptoms and burying yourself in work. Be a good boss to yourself and give yourself some time off work to relax, listen to music, go to the gym, and generally wind down.

Don’t let SAD rule your life. Make sure you take these steps to get your life and feelings under control…… Summer will arrive eventually!

#1. Utilize Your Website to Drive Traffic

Utilize Your Blog To Drive Traffic

Odds are if you have your website up and running, you’ve developed a following of readers. Turn your readers into buyers by letting them know about the amazing products you have available for them right now!

Here are a few easy ways to utilize your blog to drive that traffic to your product:

1.) You can write a blog post dedicated to your product and its new launch.

2.) Also, take a look at where you can advertise your new product within your existing blog posts.

3.) Use existing blog posts that get a lot of attention or that are high ranking for your site. Where would your new product fit in nicely in these articles?

4.) Another great way to get your new product in front of customers is by adding it to your sidebar. Just include an image and a link it to your sales page.

5.) You can even add a link to your top menu.

The more option available for people to click to get to your product, the better.

Take these steps to advertise for your new product on social media:

1.) Use Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, and even YouTube to get the word out about your new product.

2.) You can also create new social posts for the blog posts you added your product to. This will drive traffic back there again to see your new offer.

3.) You can also cross-promote your social media content. For example: If you have a YouTube video for your new product, link it to Facebook and ask people to share!

#3. Send an Email Broadcast Out to Your Lists

Email marketing has proven again and again to be one of the most effective ways to promote products. If you already send emails regularly to your lists, this will be a breeze!

When writing your email, think about why your readers need this new product? What will the get out of it? You can use your sales page written content to draft your email.

Just word it a little different and make it connect to your list like your regular email broadcasts do. The main focus, of course, is the benefits your product offers your audience.

Try these traffic driving tips and implement them into your weekly email creation:

1.) Create your first email debuting this product and send it out. BUT don’t stop tying your new product into your email content.

2.) You should mention your product throughout future email newsletters for as long as you would like! Bring up your product in each future email or refer to it in passing when it applies.

3.) Over time, you will receive questions or comments about this product, too. Use these as discussion points in future emails and also add any praises into your sales page.

The more regularly you email about your product, the more times you are getting it in front of your audience. This, in turn, will result in more sales for your product!

I don’t know about you but my desk can get a little… crazy at time.

But, with the right set of organizers, your desk (and mine) can get a beautiful makeover!

Well, of course, there is always more you can do to maximize your profits from this one product.

Consider these extra money-making steps you can take to promote your product even further:

  • Recruiting affiliates
  • Paid advertisements
  • Offering your product in a bundle with other products
  • You can even build a course based around your product (if it applies)

All of the methods discussed in this article are phenomenal at getting your product out there to the masses! Just focus on any steps you can take to get your product seen and you will be making sales (lots of them) in no time at all!

September 18, 2021      Sheila Anderson Mochrie      Leave a Comment

Choose a Download Page & Buy Button

If you are selling a downloadable product online, you need a place for customer to access your product from, right? That is exactly what I will help you achieve in this article with a download page!

Here I will show you how to easily choose your first product’s download page and buy button. These two key elements will help your customers easily buy and access your beautiful content.

Though this article is intended to help new sellers get started selling online, it can also help more experienced sellers.

Whether you are new or just looking for new ways to sell products online, let’s get started!

Disclaimer: Hello lovely readers! Thank you so much for visiting my article. Just a heads up, some of the links below are affiliate links to item I recommend. First, You Want to Decide What You are Going to Use as Your Download Page.

If you are just starting out, you have some options available for how buyers will download your product. Here are two options for you to take a look at and see which may work best for you!

Option #1 – Using an Online Store as Your Download Page

There are many online stores like Etsy or Shopify you can use. If this option is your pick, simply link your sales landing page to the product page in your shop.

Another great option is to have a store attached to your website. I personally use aMember as it offers so many helpful tools and displays my products just right!

aMember also enables your customers to sign up to become affiliates so they share products. This allows them to advertise your products for you and receive a commission of the sale in return.

Regardless of which online store you use, by using this option, you can easily send your buyers there. Just link your buy button to your product’s page in your shop.

Option #2 – Create a Download Page in Your Website

You can also create a page on your website to use as a download page. Simply go to your website and create a new page.

On this page you will include images of your product and a kind statement showing your appreciation of purchase. Then, you can upload your product through your media section and link it back to the page.

Create your page and, when it is ready to go, link your buy button and publish your page.

I will also cover how to create a buy button later in this article. BUT you want to consider the pricing for your product first.

I don’t know about you but my desk can get a little… crazy at time.

But, with the right set of organizers, your desk (and mine) can get a beautiful makeover!

Want One, Too?

Secondly, You Want to Decide What You Product Will Cost.

If this is your first product, you want to make sure you keep your price reasonable but low. A good price range is anywhere from $5 to $15 dollars to start with for your first few products.

Once you make some sales, you can compare what products of yours are selling best at what prices. Using this, you can determine what the best prices are for future products.

Another method to use is to compare your products to other sellers and how much they are selling theirs for. This will give you a good idea to start with.

You want to remember that the goal of your first product is to start making sales. This will not only get you started making money but also build a list of paying customers.

I Love Flowers!

Now, You Can Create a Buy Button.

If you choose to use your website as the download page, you will need a buy button that accepts payments. So, you need to know which third party payment platform you will use to do this.

Choose a Third-Party Payment Platform

Though there are many options out there, an easy one to start with (and stay with) is PayPal. PayPal makes it easy to accept payments as many people are already using this platform to securely make payments online.

If you don’t have a PayPal account set up for your business, just create one today. Its super easy!

With your PayPal business account, you can use it for any future sales or purchases you make for your business. All in one place!

Creating Your Buy Button

Now that you have a PayPal business account, you can easily create your first buy button. For an in depth tutorial showing how it’s done, check out PayPal’s step-by-step guide.

Using an online store as your download page? Again, all you need to do is link your sales page to your button. There is no need to link a payment system as your online shop will process that for you.

Testing Your Download Page Buy Button

Now it is time to test your buy button and download page to ensure everything is working seamlessly. Simply click through to your download page and click your buy button.

If you decided to list your product on an online store, you should be directed to your product’s sales page. If so, you know your page is good to go!

Making Payments Online Through Your Download Page

But if using your website page as the download page, when you click your buy button you should be prompted to purchase. Go ahead and purchase your product so you can see the whole process the way a buyer would.

Remember to use a different account than the account your buy button is linked to. So, be sure to use your personal account rather than business account to make the purchase.

Now you are done setting up your download page and buy button, you can start selling your product!

Food for Thought Before Planning Your Sales Page

Think of translating the main aspects of your product into an easy to follow and quick to read, thriving page. And there you have it; That is exactly what a sales page is!

But we all know it’s not that easy! To create a booming sales page, you need to know the key component that make that page a strong seller.

Below, I will show you how to easily write the key components of your sales page which are: a compelling headline, statements about features & benefits, call to action, and the buy button.

So, let’s begin!

Component #1: How to Create a Compelling Headline

Writing a headline can feel like the hardest part! You may write a good one and then find you’re second guessing yourself.

Don’t despair, you just need to make it easy on yourself and don’t overthink it! Remember that your headline has one goal: To grab your audience’s attention and draw them in to read through your sales page.

Make it as interesting as possible to get the reaction you are looking for. Try asking a thought-provoking question or make a controversial statement.

Use other seller’s sales pages within your niche as examples to see what is working for them. Keep it simple and go with what you know is already working!

Component #2: Develop a Quick Yet Catchy Intro Paragraph for your Sales Page

While your headline brings your audience to your sales page, your intro paragraph convinces them to keep on reading. So, keep it short but to the point while drawing customers into reading about your product’s features and benefits.

Once again, don’t overthink it! Use your intro paragraph to connect your readers to what your product is going to help them achieve.

Try telling a little store or something that will keep your audience engaged with what else you have to say. View your intro paragraph as the bridge between your headline and what features & benefits of your product.

Component #3: Highlighting Your Product’s Main Benefits & Features

This is where the review you did of your product comes into play. Haven’t reviewed your product yet? Don’t worry!

Read step #3 in my article, “5 Super Easy Steps to Sell Your First PLR Product”. This will show you exactly how to make a list of the features & benefits your product has to offer.

Now show customers how your product is just what they’ve been looking for. Focus on three to five main benefits and features you what to showcase to your readers.

Many sellers tend to use bullet lists to display their benefits and/or features. This is a great way to covey what your product can do without asking your customers to read too much.

Remember, you want to show your audience what’s in it for them seamlessly.

That’s right, now it is time to develop a call to action for your product that will get sales! You need to ask your buyers to take the next step and purchase your worthwhile product.

Though this sounds difficult to do, it’s not! Keep it simple and direct.

Try something like, “What are you waiting for? Click the button below to grab your copy!”
